One of our members brought up a good nutrition question today 💡. She wants to diversify her sources of iron. Her go-to is red meat and she doesn’t know where else to find iron.
Pause 🙋🏽 What is the purpose of iron?
Well, to carry oxygen to your tissues, of course.
Anyways, after further discussion, she happily discovered that: a) she is consuming more iron than she thought in food sources she believed to be iron-less and b) some other healthy options to add color and variety to her iron lineup.
Many of us also might be eating “hidden sources” of iron or desire to add variety into the mix. No matter your dietary preferences or restrictions, there are sources for you.
Here are some great sources of iron beyond red meat:
-Dark leafy greens such as spinach and swiss chard 🌿🥗
-White mushrooms 🍄
– Nuts and seeds, particularly cashews and pepitas (pumpkin seeds) 🎃!
